Artwork

Robert claimed that he worked as an industrial designer for a number of outfits including Lockheed and Hughes, and judging by his airbrushing skill on some of his artwork, it’s a possibility. A family member of Robert's told me that he drew brochures for GMC trucks in the early sixties, and that he worked for Disney on several animated features, including Snow White, developing print cels (although a contact combed the Disney archive and found no proof that he worked there).

The bulk of the original artwork that I’ve turned up, however, suggests that Robert was a portrait artist for hire, with a deep interest in space, mathematics and cosmology. He reminds me of a slightly scattered Manly P. Hall, with a hand in about 6 different philosophies.

On the backs of the pieces, usually scribbled in Robert's handwriting, are outrageous prices - $95,000 for the abstract portrait, for instance. He definitely knew his worth.

Below is a gallery of his work - most of the work is acrylic on posterboard. Pieces from collections other than mine are noted.

The World Beyond

The World Beyond was a comic strip that Robert painted in 1964. There is no record of it appearing in any newspaper or magazine. It may have simply been one of his many results of tireless self-promotion. He later re-wrote the story in his opus "Rhizology". These are original painted panels #19 & 20, and #'s 22-31, in order:
